Who is Jesus for me?

Jesus was praying with his disciples when he asked them what people were saying about him. Who did they think he was? Their answer showed that people were confused some thinking that he was John the Baptist or one of the prophets come back to life. So then he asked the disciples the leading question, ''Who do you say that I am?'' Peter gave his answer, ''You are the Christ of God.'' Luke included this story in his gospel so that the members of his community and all of us today would give our answer to that central question of our faith. So who is Jesus for us? Before we give our answer let us listen to the ''I am,'' statements of Jesus when he tells us who he is. He said, ''I am the bread of life, I am the light of the world. I am the gate of the sheep. I am the good shepherd, I am the resurrection and the life. I am the way, the truth and the life. I am the vine and you are the branches. Let us reflect on the words of Jesus and ask ourselves which of those titles means the most to us. They are all a revelation of who Jesus is but if we are praying to him which one would we choose to address him when we talk to him. When we have decided what we would choose, let us make our prayer. ''I thank you, Lord, for all that you do for me and I know that you will help and protect me in my needs because for me you are ...............''
