Gratitude for the gift of faith

Today, Jesus shows his disappointment with some of the Jewish cities around the lake of Galilee which did not respond positively to all that he had done there. He contrasts them with the gentile cities of Tyre and Sidon. It is interesting to note that one of the Jewish lakeside cities that Jesus mentions as where he had done miracles is Chorazin. It is never named in the gospels as a place where Jesus was, which shows us that Jesus did much more than what was recorded by the evangelists. Jesus had done a lot of his work in those cities especially Capernaum which became his base but the people there did not recognize Jesus or respond to him in faith. It reminds us of the parable of the servants who received 10 and 5 talents and used them well to make more but the man who received one hid it in the ground and finally it was taken away from him. Luke is challenging us with this gospel today (10:13-16). He is reminding us that we have been baptized into Jesus and have been following him for many years. We have received so much that much is expected of us. ''Anyone who listens to you, listens to me.'' So he is taking it for granted that we are witnessing to him by our lives. Are I living in such a way that people at work ask me why I act in a way that is different from other workers? Do they ask us why we are always kind and helpful to them? If they did ask us would we reply proudly that we act in that way because we know Jesus and are trying to follow his example? Or would we be reluctant or too shy to admit that Jesus is important in our lives? Dear Lord, today we hear what your message is saying to us. Thank for our faith and all the gifts that you have given us. We have received so much so give us the courage to live in such a way that others will recognize that we are people of faith.
