Peter reuniting with Jesus

Today in John's gospel, 21:15-19, we hear how Peter is fully reunited with Jesus after his denial. The story begins when Jesus is arrested in the Garden of Olives and taken to be questioned by the high priest. Peter is waiting outside and three times the servants recognize him and ask if he is a disciple of Jesus. Because of his fear, Peter denies three times that he knows Jesus. Later we hear that Peter has returned to Galilee. Some of the other apostles are with him and Peter says that he is going fishing. Is he thinking that since he has failed Jesus, that is all that is left for him to do? However, all night they catch nothing and in the morning an observer on the shore tells them to cast their nets again on the right side. They do so and make a great catch. John recognizes Jesus and says to Peter, ''It is the Lord,'' Now Peter has a chance for reconciliation and swims ashore. Jesus prepares a meal and then speaks to Peter. He does not condemn or judge him but asks three times, ''Do you love me'' and when Peter replies three times that he does, he is reinstated to care for the flock of the believers. Lord, we too have not always been faithful to you but now we know that you will not judge us but are asking us to love you. Help us to sit still long enough to see that your love is all around us in your creation and in all those good people you have made in your likeness. Help us to share your love with them.
