Living with faith in Jesus

Today's first reading from Isaiah 38 is thought provoking. Hezekiah was seriously ill and was at the point of death. Isaiah came to him and said, ''Put your house in order for you are going to die.'' Hezekiah did not want to die and prayed to the Lord who through the healing work of Isaiah was given 15 more years of life. Even when we are quite old, perhaps we too do not think that sooner or later we will die. So how would we go about putting our house in order?! I think it is simply by living with complete faith in Jesus in this life. There will be no need to make a special effort to unite ourselves with Jesus when we are close to death. Jesus said that in his Father's house there are many mansions but being a follower of Jesus means that we are already living with him and our death will be a passing to a greater and much more intense and beautiful union with him. We see in the gospel (Matthew 12/1-8) how Jesus protected his disciple from the criticisms of the Pharisees. If we are living as his disciples he will protect us in this life and welcome us into the continuation of our life in the next world.
