God loves all people

To understand today's gospel we have to see that it is the second part of the proclamation in Nazareth of the mission of Jesus.(Luke 4:16-30) He had just said that his mission is to the poor, to captives, to the blind and the oppressed. He did not say that his mission was limited to the Jewish people. He clarifies that in today's gospel when he reminds the people of his home town of how the prophets Elijah and Elisha cured people who were not Jewish. The Jewish people were chosen by God to fulfil the words of Isaiah who said, ''I have given you as a covenant to the people, to be a light to the nations.'' (42:6). So what is the message of Jesus to us as we enter the third week of Lent? We are reminded that God loves all people not just those of one particular faith. We are all sons and daughters of the same loving God. God. ''Let us go forth, then, to offer everyone the life of Jesus''.(Pope Francis. The Joy of the Gospel,49). I don't think that means that we have to go from door to door preaching. We are called to reflect Jesus, the Light of the world to others by showing that our faith in him gives meaning to our life and gives us peace despite all the suffering in the world. ''Fill us with your light and love, Lord, so that we may be your witnesses to others.'
