First Sunday of Advent - waiting

First Sunday of Advent - waiting

Advent is about waiting in expectation that something life-changing will take place in my life.

As Jesus says, "Stay awake for you know neither the hour nor the day."

This is not like a doctor's appointment when I sit nervously in the waiting room, expecting any minute to hear the doctor call me in to his surgery. No, this is an experience that often occurs without warning. An encounter with God comes when I least expect it even though I knew it was coming. It is an encounter through which I sensed being formed, shaped, moulded by God, the potter.

It is like watching a Fijian carver, reshaping a piece of wood, and having a sense that God is continually reshaping my life in such a way that I am continually challenged to be who I am, that I continually allow for the rebirth of Christ within me.

It is to prepare for the birth of that child which changed and continues to change all our lives.
