Christmas Message from Fr Tom Rouse, Country Leader, New Zealand

12 Dec, 2021

To all our friends, supporters and donors,

It is now almost two years since we first went into lockdown and now we approach our second Christmas under the cloud of COVID 19.

Despite the uncertainty as to how much longer we have to wait and concern as the virus continues to mutate, we pray with hope and trust. Here at Columban Mission we pray in gratitude for your faithful support during this time. Your donations ensure that Columbans around the world continue to live up to the call to mission, to continue the mission of Jesus Christ in bringing life, happiness and hope, especially to those who are poor, forgotten or ignored. These are the people who identify very closely with Mary and Joseph as they sought to find some place in that little village of Bethlehem to give birth to their child.

This is the message of Christmas - that God, the Creator of all things, chose to come among us through the birth of a child. So let us join with Columbans and people around the world giving thanks for the gift of family, aware that the power of love can help to open up those clouds that hover over us at this time and enable us to find that star which guides us to that place of encounter with our compassionate God as we hear the gentle gurgle of a child born in the stable at Bethlehem.

May God bless you all and may each and everyone of you enjoy a peaceful, joyful and hopeful Christmas.
