May 9 was a significant day for the Parliament of Australia. The first Parliament was opened on this day in 1901 in Melbourne by the Duke of Cornwall and York (later George V). The Seat of Government Act 1908 set Canberra as the site of the new capital and in 1927 on this day the parliament shifted its base from Melbourne to Canberra. Then on May 9, 1988, Queen Elizabeth opened the new Parliament house in Canberra.

we ask a blessing on the people of Australia.
We ask your blessing on governments everywhere as they face a host of challenges.
The Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine have caused steep rises in the cost of food and energy putting more pressures on governments already dealing with serious issues with increased migration and climate change.
May your Spirit guide them into the way of justice and peace.
