A new Northern Ireland executive was formed on May 8, 2007, with Rev Ian Paisley as First Minister and Martin McGuinness as his deputy. A working relationship between the Democratic Unionist Party and Sinn Fein was unimaginable before the Good Friday Agreement was signed. Ian Paisley was a Protestant firebrand from Antrim while Martin McGuiness was a Catholic militant from Derry. They represented opposite sides of the divide in Northern Ireland sharing a mutual distrust and a history of involvement in sectarian violence. Yet the two men eventually became close working colleagues.
Loving God
we are grateful every time something that seems impossible happens like the working alliance between Sin Fein and the DUP.
We ask that people on different sides of the many conflicts in our world, might be able to finds ways to work together for the common good.
