An article published in the Guardian newspaper on this day in 2018 reported that plants communicate with each other. The study published in PLOS One found that they communicate through their root system and by secreting chemicals into the soil when they are stressed. These signals can change behaviour either causing more aggressive growth or slowing their growth rate to compensate for their neighbours.
Creator God,
we give thanks for all that we are learning about the natural world and its wonder.
May it change our behaviour and lead us into a more harmonious relationship with all the other species that share our earth.
