May 18 is celebrated as World Goodwill Day. The idea is reported to have begun with a message sent by children in Wales to other children around the world. The last line of the message reads “science has made us neighbours: let goodwill keep us friends”. The message coincided with a gathering of 26 nations in the Hague on May 18, 1899 for a peace conference. May 18 is also the anniversary of Columban Father Cyril Hally, who died in 2010. He was passionate about peace and was an active member of Pax Christi.
Loving God
we pray for peace in our world.
We remember those who are most deeply affected by wars and conflict and especially for the children.
We pray for all the areas of our world where conflict is raging that peace may be brought about by people of goodwill.
