On May 10, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI declared Hildegard of Bingen to be a saint through the process of “equivalent canonization,” a decision based on a standing tradition of popular veneration. Some regions of the church had considered her to be a saint for centuries. Later that year Benedict proclaimed Hildegard a doctor of the Church, one of only four women to have been so named. She is considered a patron saint of musicians and writers.
Loving God
as we remember Hildegard of Bingen and also St John of Avila, whose feast is celebrated on May 10, we pray for all those who work as spiritual directors.
May they lead those who come to them to a deeper knowledge of God.
Give them all the graces that they need to help them in their ministry.
