Liu Che became Emperor Wu of Han on this day in 141BC. He was the 7th Han emperor and ruled for 54 years. Chinese history regarded him as the greatest Han emperor, and one of the greatest ever in the history of China. The Han period in China introduced Buddhism, saw the spread of Confucianism and Taoism, and further developed the use of Chinese characters in writing. During this time the Silk Road was opened to establish trade routes between China and other nations. The Han dynasty lasted more than 400 years.
Gracious God
we pray for the people of China.
Emperor Wu established centralised control in his time and that is still the situation under present leader Xi Jinping.
We ask that there might be freedom of religion in China.
We also ask that present tensions between China and the West can be resolved peacefully.
Amen
