On 14 March 1991 the Birmingham 6 six walked free after 15 years in jail for the bombing of 2 pubs in Birmingham in 1974 that killed 18 people. Their release was the result of an appeal made in 1991 that found evidence of police fabrication and questioned both the confessions made by the men and the 1975 forensic evidence. The court concluded that their convictions were” both unsafe and unsatisfactory.” Later the men were given compensation for their lost years.
Loving God
we pray for all those who suffer from miscarriages of justice and who have spent years in jail before being cleared of all charges.
We pray for all prisoners of conscience especially in places where they are held for long periods without any charges being brought against them.
We remember those who endure various forms of torture while in custody and as a result sign false confessions.
Amen
