Daily Prayer - January 30 2023

A civil rights march in Derry on this day in 1972 is remembered as Bloody Sunday as 14 unarmed civilians were killed and 13 injured when the British Army opened fire on people protesting against interment. It was one of the darkest days of the Troubles. The Saville report, which was released in 2010, founded that the people who were shot posed no real threat to the soldiers and that the shooting was without justification.

Loving God,

when tensions run high as they did on this day in 1972, terrible things can
happen.

We pray for all the victims of the Troubles and for continued peace in Northern
Ireland.

We pray that present difficulties around the NI protocol and the NI Assembly can be
resolved and not be a pretext drawing people back into serious conflict.

Amen
