Daily Prayer - January 11, 2023

On January 11, 1964, Luther L. Terry, M.D., Surgeon General of the U.S. Public Health Service, released the first report of the Surgeon General’s Advisory Committee on Smoking and Health. The Advisory Committee concluded that cigarette smoking is a cause of lung cancer and laryngeal cancer in men, a probable cause of lung cancer in women and the most important cause of chronic bronchitis. Despite resistance and denial by the tobacco industry attitudes towards smoking changed as more people quit smoking and banned it in public places.

Loving God,

growing up in the 50’s and 60’s was to be constantly in a cloud of cigarette smoke.

We give thanks that for all that we have learned about the problems connected to smoking.

We are grateful that many people have been able to quit.

Help those still unable to break the addiction and free all who suffer from addictions of one kind or another.

Amen
