Daily Prayer - February 9 2023

It was at Roodee fields in Chester that the first recorded race meeting was held on February 9, 1540. It is the oldest racecourse still in use in England. Mention of Chester brought back memories of the years that the Columbans were based in St Clare’s Parish in Chester while doing promotion work in Shrewsbury diocese. I owe that community a great debt of gratitude for their kindness and grace to me and the warm way they welcomed the Columbans.

Loving God,

we pray for the people of St. Clare’s in Chester.

I pray for all those areas of the world where once independent communities have had to amalgamate with other parishes due to a shortage of priests.

We ask that we continue to explore new ways of being church that will preserve the identity and the bonds that small communities have build up over many years.

Amen
