Daily Prayer - February 8 2023

On this day in 1949 Hungarian Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty was sentenced to life in prison for treason.  A long-time opponent of the Communist regime in Hungry, he became the symbol of opposition to totalitarian tyranny. After his arrest he was tortured and eventually signed a confession. He spent 7 years in prison before been given refuge in the American Embassy in Bucharest. He was moved to the Vatican and ended his life in Vienna.

Loving God,

we ask your blessing on all who stand up and speak against all forms of oppression. We pray for the people of Hungary.

We pray for those parts of the world where there is an authoritarian form of government and where people are denied the opportunity to have a real say in who leads them.

Amen
