Daily Prayer - February 3 2023

On February 3, 1931 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Hawkes’ Bay/ Napier region of New Zealand. In all 256 people died, thousands were injured and there was extensive damage to various structures in the region. A fire in Napier that could not be controlled added to the death toll and destruction. The rebuild of Napier was done in an art deco style that is still a feature of the city.

 Loving God,

as we pray for people in the upper part of New Zealand suffering from floods and slips at the moment we are reminded of our vulnerability in the face of nature’s power.

May we be prompted by these experiences to take the action need to reduce the impact of climate change and put effective plans in place to deal with natural disasters when they happen.

Amen
