Daily Prayer - February 22 2023

In response to a call from Cardinal Jaime Sin thousands of people in Manila poured out onto Epifanio de los Santos Ave (EDSA) on February 22, 1986 in protest against the dictator Ferdinand Marcos. They refused to leave and four days later Marcos stepped down and fled the country. That the transition happened peacefully was seen by some as a miracle as many feared a blood bath when Marcos ordered troops to clear the streets. The army refused to fire on their own people confronted as they were by thousands of people with roses and rosaries in what is known as the People Power movement.

Loving God

we give thanks that there was a peaceful transition in the Philippines in 1986.

We ask your blessing on those areas of the world where people attempted similar protests only to be met with beatings, imprisonment and death.

We pray that the changes that people need and seek will come about.

Amen
