On February 19, 1945, naturalist Bruce Stanley Wright wrote a report describing how an unknown number of Japanese soldiers died trying to cross a mangrove swamp off the Burmese coast (Ramree Island) rather than surrender to the British. Some may have died from disease, dehydration and starvation but many of the deaths were attributed to the salt water crocodiles that inhabit the area. Wading through deep mud they would have been easy prey.
Loving God
we pray for people who find themselves in situations whether they are faced with hard choices and feel trapped.
We pray especially for people who have knowledge that should be shared but fear what will happen to them if they speak out.
We pray that codes of silence might be broken in the interest of the common good.
Amen
