Daily Prayer - February 17 2023

Michael Webb and his son, also named Michael, discovered what came to be known as the Derrynaflan Hoard in Tipperary on February 17, 1980. It was a set of liturgical vessels, including a chalice and patten, dating back to the 8th century. Regarded as one of the most exciting finds in Irish art, it sparked a court case about ownership. The court decided that the find belonged to the state but there was a substantial reward for the finders. The items are on display in the National Museum.

Loving God,

the idea of finding buried treasure resonates so much with people that Jesus used it as an image of the Kingdom of God.

We ask that we might discover the things that are of deepest value to us and commit ourselves to searching for them.

Amen
