Howard Carter, an English archaeologist, unsealed the burial chamber of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun on February 16, 1923. He had evidence that the tomb was located in the Valley of the Kings but it took him 7 years to locate the entrance point, which was hidden under of mountain of debris. Most of the treasure of this tomb (over 5000 objects) were intact and included his burial mask, a solid gold coffin and his mummified body.
Gracious God,
the pyramids and other burial chambers reveal something about how death was perceived in the ancient Egypt.
We ask that our own rituals around death as well as our belief in a life after this one may bring consolation and comfort to those who mourn.
