Daily Prayer - February 10 2023

A report in the journal Biological Conservation published on this day in 2019 expressed grave concerns about the decline in the insect population worldwide. It estimated that 40% are in decline and 30% are endangered. Essential to the proper function of all ecosystems as pollinators, recyclers of nutrients and as a food source for many other animals and birds their lost would be devasting. Factors contributing to their decline include intensive agriculture, pesticides, urbanisation and climate change.

Creator God,

we give thanks for the variety of life forms that you have created and especially for insects.

While not always our favourite part of creation may we recognise how vital there are to the survival of ecosystems and to our own wellbeing and take greater care of them.

Amen
