The Marshall Plan for European recovery after WWII was signed by President Truman on April 3, 1948. The United States feared that the poverty, unemployment and dislocation of the post war period would increase the appeal of communist parties to voters in western Europe. The Soviet Union did not participate and the countries under its influence followed its example. For the 17 nations that did receive aid the plan was successful in restoring economies and preserving democratic institutions.
Loving God,
we pray for an end to the war in Ukraine as we try to imagine the cost to rebuild there when the war ends.
We pray for the people of Ukraine who have to spend millions of dollars trying to defend themselves while other needs continue to make demands on them.
