The film All Quiet on the Western Front premiered in Los Angeles on this day in 1930. Based on a novel by Erick Maria Remarque, a German veteran of WWI, it is an antiwar movie that reflects the experience of German troops in the trenches and the trauma they experienced there. The film was remade in 1979 and again in 2022. The 2022 version was nominated for 9 Oscars and won 4.

In our world where so many conflicts are raging, we pray that an awareness of the misery and destruction that war brings will move people to seek the way of peace.
We pray that conflicts might be resolved by negotiation rather than fighting.
