A 51-day standoff between federal agents and members of the Branch Davidian group at Waco, Texas, ended on this day in 1993. Shots were fired and a fire started. In the end 75 members of the group died. The group, led by David Koresh, were waiting for the second coming of Christ and preparing for the end of the world. In the past few days Kenyan police have been investigating the deaths of four people suspected to have starved to death. 11 others survived after the leader of a controversial cult called the Good News International Church told them to starve themselves in the hope of getting to heaven quickly.

we ask you to be with people who are desperate and so are prone to be taken in by the promises made to them by charismatic leaders.
Bless those confused by conspiracy theories whose trust in democratic institutions is being eroded.
