At about 23.40 on the 14th of April, 1912, the Titanic on its maiden voyage to New York hit an iceberg. The ship with 2,200 passengers and crew sank in the early hours of April 15 with the loss of over 1500 lives. Regarded as unsinkable, the story of the Titanic continues to resonate with people today not only because of the nature and scale of the tragedy but as a cautionary tale about human pride. A search to find the wreck was carried out and it was discovered in 1985.
Loving God,
as we remember those who lost their lives when the Titanic sank, we pray for all who have died at sea.
We pray for those families who do not have a special location where they can go to remember them.
We ask your blessing on all travelers that they may arrive safely.
