It was on April 13, 1970 that the crew of Apollo 13 sent a report to Mission Control saying “Okay, Houston, we’ve had a problem here.” Less than an hour after the crew heard a bang, Flight Director Kranz instructed his team that the new mission plan involved abandoning the Moon landing, looping around the Moon, and getting the crew home safely as quickly as possible. They splashed down safely in the Pacific on April 17. A misquoted version of the message “Houston we have a problem” has become shorthand for encountering an unexpected problem.

Help us to take care of our fragile planet so we do not have to contemplate trying to establish settlements on the moon or elsewhere.
