The encyclical Pacem in Terris was issued on April 11, 1963, by Pope John XXIII at the start of the Easter weekend. It was a response to the reality of the Cold War and the nuclear arms race. The Berlin Wall, constructed in 1961, had become a chilling symbol of the polarization of relations between the Soviet Union and the West. The Cuban missile crisis in 1962 had brought the world to the very brink of war. It was a call for peace based on Truth, Justice Charity and Liberty and was addressed to all people of goodwill.

we give thanks for the treasure we have in Catholic Social teaching.
We ask that our world be guided by the great principles that were at the heart of Pacem In Terris namely Truth, Justice, Charity and Liberty.
We pray especially for those parts of the world were some or all of these are denied or restricted.
