Daily Prayer - November 9, 2022

On November 9, 1963, a double disaster that killed over 600 people hit Japan. The first happened in a mine near Omuta. A series of explosions killed 20 miners outright. Another 438 workers died from acute monoxide poisoning and an additional 839 suffered aftereffects from inhaling the toxic gas.

Several hundred miles away in Yokohama, a 12-car commuter train headed for Tokyo struck three cars from a derailed freight train. This caused the commuter train to veer off course and collide head-on with another passenger train. Four passenger cars were crushed, killing 161 people and injuring another 120.

Loving God,

we ask you to be with all those who are affected by events like those that hit Japan on this day.

Help all families who are suddenly faced with tragic news about the loss of loved ones.

Be with all who survive these disasters but have to deal with long term injuries or disabilities.

Amen
