Daily Prayer - November 7, 2022

Mary Robinson was elected the first female president of Ireland on November 7, 1990. From Mayo, she was a distinguished constitutional lawyer and a strong advocate for human rights She also served as a member of Seanad Eireann (Senate). She gave the presidency a more prominent role than her predecessors visiting places like Somalia, the Congo and China.

When she finished her term in 1997, she became the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. She was also a cofounder of the Council of Women World Leaders.

Gracious God

we give thanks for Mary Robinson and others like her who helped to break what is called the glass ceiling that had prevented women, minorities and others take on significant roles.

We ask that they might transform these roles as they bring their knowledge and experience of what needs to be changed to these positions.

Amen
