Daily Prayer - November 4, 2022

On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama became the first African American to be elected President of the USA. The senator from Illinois defeated Republican John McCain.

The big issues of the time were the war in Iraq and the financial crash of 2008. The Los Angeles Times noted: "We need a leader who demonstrates thoughtful calm and grace under pressure, one not prone to volatile gesture or capricious pronouncement ... as the presidential race draws to its conclusion, it is Obama's character and temperament that come to the fore. It is his steadiness. His maturity."

Gracious God

we give thanks for the election of Barack Obama and the symbolic importance of his win.

However, he was unable to achieve much of what he hoped to do.

We ask that in our divided world political parties might focus more on the common good than on the promotion of their own political agendas.

Amen
