Daily Prayer - November 30, 2022

On this day in 722, Boniface, an English Benedictine monk was appointed a missionary bishop and was instructed to reform the German Church. He was in Rome at the time to report to Pope Gregory II on the situation of the church in the Germanic parts of Europe.

There he had encountered a form of Christianity that had either lapsed into paganism or was full of error in large part due to an uneducated and lax clergy. He is known today as the Apostle to the Germans.

Lord,

as we give thanks for the life of St Boniface, we ask a blessing on all missionaries.

As all Christians are missionary by baptism, we ask that they come to a deeper understanding of their call and be empowered to give witness to the gospel in all the circumstances of their lives.

Be with all who are being persecuted for their faith.

Amen
