Daily Prayer - November 21, 2022

In the year 164 BC on November 21, a Jewish revolt led by Judas Maccabeus against the Syrian Greek army culminated in a rededication of the 2nd Temple in Jerusalem and the restoration of its menorah (lamp). This event is commemorated each year in the Jewish feast of Hanukkah, the festival of lights.

The story says that only one usable vial of oil was found with just enough oil to illuminate the Temple lamp for one day, and yet it lasted for eight full days. Hence the festival of lights last for 8 days

Loving God,

we pray for Jewish communities throughout the world as trends show a rise in anti-Semitism.

We pray also that recent work in the area of interfaith dialogue may continue to improve relations between the great Abrahamic faiths – Judaism, Islam and Christianity.

Amen
