On November 18, 1984, reports came in about one of 4 Soviet helicopters that were delivering American wheat to the victims of a dreadful famine in Ethiopia effecting almost 8m people. When reports about the extent of the suffering became known a massive mobilization of humanitarian aid by the international community was sparked.
Ethiopia is again experiencing famine but at a time when Russia is at odds much of the world over the war in Ukraine and international cooperation is more difficult to achieve.
Loving God
we once again pray for the kind of international cooperation that was sparked by the 1984 famine in Ethiopia.
We pray for the people there again experiencing extreme drought and starvation.
We give thanks that relief convoys to the Tigray region have been getting though.
We ask that deliveries of wheat from Ukraine, especially those destined for Africa, will continue.
Amen
