Daily Prayer - November 14, 2022

On November 14, 1983, the first of 96 cruise missiles to be based at Greenham Common in England arrived on site.

In September of 1981, when news of the plan to use Greenham Common became known, 36 Welsh women marched 120 miles from Cardiff to RAF Greenham Common to protest against the plan. These protests were to continue for 19 years. In December of 1982 30000 women surrounded the base joining hands. A similar event in 1983 involved 50000 women.

In March of 1991 the last of the remaining missiles were removed from the base.

As we remember the women who sustain a long vigil against cruise missiles,

we pray that our world will be able to avoid all use of such deadly weapons.

We pray for all peacemakers that they might succeed in their aims.

We pray for all involved in negotiations in the troubled parts of our world that they might bring about peaceful outcomes.

Amen
