Daily Prayer - November 10, 2022

On November 10, 1847, a ship named the Stephen Whitney sank off the south coast of Ireland with the loss of 92 people. One of the events that was in part prompted by this disaster was the building of a lighthouse on Fastnet Rock, Ireland’s most southerly point.

The first one was opened on January 1, 1854. There were problems with the construction that rendered the tower unsafe so a second lighthouse with a stronger beacon became operative in 1904.

Loving God

we pray for all those who work on or travel the oceans and seas of our planet.

We remember those who have lost their lives at sea.

We give thanks for the role that lighthouses and lifeboats have played in diminishing the numbers of maritime death and we pray for all who served on them.

Amen
