Daily Prayer - May 4, 2022

2021 marked the 500th anniversary of the Spanish Conquest of Mexico.

On May 4 of that year the President Andres Manual Lopes Obrador offered an apology to the Mayan people for the abuses they had suffered during those 5 centuries.

In 2008 Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, offered an apology to the first peoples of Australia.

It followed the publication of a report on the stolen generations.

Lord,

we pray for the Indigenous peoples of our world who have suffered much from conquest by other nations.

Many continue to suffer today from the long-term damage done to their culture and way of life.

We ask that ways will be found to overcome past injustices done to them. We pray that we may learn from their knowledge and wisdom especially when it comes to caring for the earth.

Amen
