Daily Prayer - May 30, 2022

May 30, 1959, saw the opening of the Auckland Harbour bridge.

The idea for a bridge across the Waitemata Harbour has been around for a long time but in 1950 an authority was set up to take the plan forward.

Considered an Auckland icon, the original design did not include walking, cycling, or rail facilities.

The plan to create a shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists along the city-side of Auckland Harbour Bridge (SkyPath) by 2021 is still on hold.

Lord.,

the harbour bridge is an example of what people can achieve with imagination and engineering know how.

We ask that people’s skills and knowledge will be used for projects that help to bring people together rather than for what separates.

Such projects today are enormously expensive so we pray that wise decisions about what to fund may be made with the impact on the planet as a primary consideration.

Amen
