Daily Prayer - May 27, 2022

Jomo Kenyatta was elected Prime Minister of Kenya on May 27 and was sworn in on June 1, 1963.

When Kenya gained independence from Britain in 1964, he became its first President.

I was aware of the Maasai people of Kenya though Naas local Fr. Terry Gogarty., who worked as a missionary with them for 49 years.  On the occasion of his Golden Jubilee the Superior General of the Mill Hill Fathers wrote in his letter to Terry: “You spent your many gifts and energy on developing and appreciating their [Maasai] culture, language and spiritual life. “

Lord,

we pray for the people of Kenya and Especially for the Maasai people.

We ask a blessing for all of Africa which has endured and is still enduring famine, conflict, disease and poverty. We tend to hear only the bad news that comes out of Africa.

Help us to be aware of the many great local initiatives are happening there like the grandmothers of Zimbabwe and their friendship bench that is assisting people dealing with depression.

Amen
