Daily Prayer - May 25, 2022

On May 25, 2017, 43 people are reported to have died in Marawi in the Southern Philippines.

Conflict between Government forces and Islamic State linked militants turned deadly on May 23. The fighting continued for 5 months.

Much of the city was destroyed and most of is its people, mainly Maranao Muslims, were displaced.

A report in January 2021 suggested that the rebuilding process was moving slowly but most of the people had not returned.

Lord,

we pray for the people of the Prelature of Marawi set up by Bishop Benny Tudtud with the assistance of a number of Columbans.

The goal was to establish and nurture good relationships with the Muslim community.

We pray for peace in Mindanao and for a healing of past hurts between Christians and Muslims on the island.

We pray for all the people of the Philippines as a new President is sworn in.

Amen
