The Act of Uniformity passed by the House of Commons on January 15, 1549, decreed that the Book of Common Prayer would come into use in the Church of England by June 9 (Whit Sunday).
It contained the Eucharistic Service, Daily Office as well as orders of service for the sacraments.
This publication in English replaced the Latin texts that had previously been used. The revision done in 1662 became the standard version.
Lord,
your church gathered in prayer, needs common text and orders of service so that people can pray together.
We give thanks for the way the book of Common Prayer has nurtured Anglican Communities around the world for centuries.
We pray for Christian Unity that all who believe in Christ may draw closer together in service of the gospel.
Amen
