Daily Prayer - June 3, 2022

The treaty of Lima was signed on this day in 1929 by representatives from Peru and Chile.  It ended a long-standing border dispute between the two countries.

The Tacna region returned to Peru and Arica was given to Chile. The treaty did not include Bolivia which fought with Peru against Chile in the War of the Pacific (1879 – 1883) which created the territorial dispute. Bolivia was left landlocked.

Lord,

borders are points of meeting but also of separation.

We pray for the people of Peru and Chile who have endured their own internal troubles over the years and were especially hard hit by the Covid pandemic.

We ask your blessing on the Columbans who still work in these two countries and for the Church in Latin America.

Amen
