Daily Prayer - June 21, 2022

On June 21, 1996, Arvol Looking Horse, a spiritual leader of the Sioux Nation, began World Peace and Prayer Day.

He called on all the people of the earth to honour, cherish and renew mother earth. He also organised a number of events to remember his people who died at the battle of Wounded Knee.

June 21 marks the summer solstice in the Northern hemisphere and so is an appropriate time to call for a fresh beginning for our wounded earth.

Lord,

we thank you for the wisdom and leadership of indigenous people in our world especially when it comes to care for the earth.

May we listen to them and learn from them how to walk lightly on the earth and contribute to its renewal rather than its destruction.

Amen
