Daily Prayer - July 3, 2022

The Limassol wildfires broke out near the Cypriot village of Arakapas on 3 July 2021.

Cyprus was in the middle of a week-long heatwave that saw temperatures surpass 40 °C (104 °F). They were described as the worst fires in the country's history.

Cyprus is one of a number of countries around the globe that are experiencing extreme temperatures and subsequent wildfires.

This past week Japan recorded temperatures over 40̊ C and parts of Europe and North Africa are currently experiencing heatwaves.

Lord,

extreme heatwaves and fires are another sign of climate change and the treat it posed to all life on earth.

We pray that these warning signs will be heeded.

May the danger posed by climate change be recognised and acted on by all the nations of the world so that we might protect and cherish the gifts that we have received.

Be with all who have lost loved ones and homes in wildfires around the globe.

Amen
