The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was created on July 29, 1957 in response to the deep fears and expectations generated by the discoveries and diverse uses of nuclear technology. The Agency was set up to work with its Member States and multiple partners worldwide to promote safe, secure and peaceful nuclear technologies. Its website states that “it shall ensure, so far as it is able, that assistance provided by it or at its request or under its supervision or control is not used in such a way as to further any military purpose.”
we pray that the work of this agency may protect the world from the risks posed by atomic energy.
We ask that member countries abide by the codes and practices the agency has established and that non-members will not seek to develop nuclear energy to make weapons.
