Daily Prayer - December 16, 2022

On December 16, 2016, Beijing authorities declared a five-day pollution “red alert”, shutting schools, ordering thousands of vehicles off the roads and telling residents to stay indoors after the Chinese capital was enveloped by a shroud of toxic smog.

In was also on this day in 2020 in a ground-breaking decision a UK court ruled that polluted air was a contributing factor to the 9-year-old Ella Kissi-Debrah’s untimely, tragic passing in 2013. She is the first person in the world to have a death certificate that lists air pollution as a cause of death.

Creator God,

we ask your help as we try to change what we are doing to our planet that leads to polluted air, contaminated water, loss of species and the destruction of the habitat that other species need for survival.

May events like those that happened on this day be a motivation for a change of attitude and behaviour on our part.

Amen
