The Dayton Accord was signed in Paris on December 14, 1995. This followed a peace agreement reached on Nov. 21, 1995, near Dayton Ohio, by the presidents of Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia. It brought an end to the war in Bosnia and outlined a General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The agreement also laid the groundwork for NATO military action in Kosovo in 1999, which has since led to the province’s independence.
Loving God
we give thanks for an end to the war in Bosnia and for the people who helped to bring about that outcome.
We pray that the example of events like the Dayton Accord might encourage others presently engaged in conflict to seek the way of peace together.
