Daily Prayer - August 4, 2022

On 4 August 2020, a massive explosion rocked the City of Beirut in Lebanon. Large amounts of ammonium nitrate that had been stored for years at the Port of Beirut without proper safety measures accidentally exploded. The blast was felt as far away as Turkey and Israel and was heard even in Cyprus more than 240 km away. In all 218 died, 7,000 were injured and many thousand left homeless.

On 10 August 2020, Prime Minister Hassan Diab and the Lebanese cabinet, under pressure even before the explosion, resigned.

We ask your blessing, loving God,

on the people of Lebanon who have endured great suffering over many years.

Be with all who are suffering economic hardship due to rising prices for energy, rapid increases in inflation and disruption to the food supply chain.

We ask a special blessing on all who are victims of serious accidents especially those that might have been avoided had great care been exercised.

Amen
